Oops..Try this again

I made an error in deleting the last post, I meant to delete a page.

What is a page?

As you notice above, there is a new link or page entitled Weekend Preview. I'll create more pages to have a grouping of posts all on the same page. Weekend Previews, Midweek Wraps, Q&A's, etc.

It'll hopefully allow for a cleaner easier way to browse. Also, commenting has opened to Google users, not just people with a Blogger name, I've been told that is more convenient.

Keep checking back as I try to get back into this blogging deal.

Meanwhile, Formerlyanon who blogs Michigan baseball for MGoBlog was kind enough to put aside his disdain for Ohio State and summarize the Buckeyes' hitters and where they stood after spring break.

In his statstical breakdown you can see which players are carrying their weight, who is not, and how the current order is propelling or hindering the Bucks. While the viewpoints are his and not mine, he did invest a lot of team to create arguments worth reading about in trying to understand the Buckeyes struggles at the plate.

BACK IN PLAY

Are you like me and frustrated, embarrassed, and in disbelief that Ohio State fell to Division II Rollins 3-1 on Wednesday, the second year in a row, and are falling to NAIA Webber International 9-0 today?

We'll guess what, the #1 site for Ohio State baseball is back.

To be fair, I'll take the blame. I run the show last year, boom 42-19 Big Ten Champions.

I give up the show, 13-7, and our program becomes a joke around the country.

Fear not, I'm back.

You want cute statistics, you'll get it. You want pie charts, bar graphs, and scatter-plots? Good luck.

Get ready folks, it won't be pretty a re-opening.

The eve is the end... for now.

Michael Jordan, Urban Meyer, Chris Webb.

Legendary figures of course.

But no, this is serious.

Whether it was Jordan pursuing minor league baseball or Urban battling with health issues each stepped out while at their highest. For Jordan the return to basketball took a year and a half, for Urban he retracted his statement the next day. In both cases the passion and effort needed to continue just wasn't there.

My time has come as well.

It really does tear me to pieces, especially on the eve of such an important season to the baseball program that I step away from the site for a bit. I have poured nearly everything I have into following, rooting, and cheering for Ohio State baseball that I have heavily sagged in other aspects of life.

I've skipped class to be the only Ohio State student rooting on the Bucks in frigid Oldsmobile Park in East Lansing, I've worn face paint to Big Ten Tournament games in Ann Arbor, I've shared absolutely thrilling moments with personal friends, I've suffered the heartache as well, and I have established enjoyable and cherished relationships on the field, in the stands, and in the media world.

It really has been a great ride, finally a Big Ten championship was won, but for now its over.

As you may remember in November my grandfather passed away. It was and still is a hard thing to deal with. In fact my writings were something he was very proud of, and as someone who attended Illinois he would ask me about the Illini. When the time came I realized how much time I spend on personal projects and perhaps letting some of life's finer moments pass by.

Though I am now older than all of Ohio State's baseball team, I still am just 23, a college student, and someone who works two jobs to have the gas money to run around the Big Ten. As much fun as it is to do this, I really haven't considered what I ultimately want to do. Though 23 isn't old, it isn't exactly young and out of fairness to myself and family I need to really focus on what and who I want to become and take the appropriate actions.

I thought I could juggle everything but truthfully I cannot and it pains me to admit that. I have so many ideas and storylines I would love to write about, but I end up putting more and more things off and out of fairness to the players, the program, parents, and readers that is not fair.

So on the eve of the season I feel terrible to say it is for the best to not start than quit halfway in or do a half-hearted job.

Will this be the complete end? I can't say for sure, I'm looking into ways to possible work out a better job schedule, that always more flexibility but still provides me with what I need to do to take care of personal responsibilities at home.

I sincerely apologize and thank everyone for everything over the last year and half.

It is not the complete end of me, I will still have Buckeye State Baseball which I have aid in running, just the truly in-depth Ohio State coverage will not be like it would here.

I owe an extremely big thank you to Todd Lamb for allowing me this opportunity. I've created numerous ties withing the baseball world, and I feel I've provided you all with a true passionate and unrivaled coverage, that withouth him would not be possible.

If anyone ever wants to drop a line or chat, feel free to reach me at cmwebb24@gmail.com

Again I thank everyone and sincerely am sorry for letting a faithful following down as I have. I just need to allow myself more me time right now. I hope everyone understands.

The Buckeye Nine in 2010

I have not forgotten the Buckeye Nine.

Ohio State is on winter break until Monday, and for once I tried to have as light of a workload as possible in resembling some sort of break. Some of you may or may not know, but I've created a site Buckeye State Baseball to cover all of Ohio collegiate baseball, and that is where my baseball attention has been in building that site up a bit. Some Buckeye news has come way over the last few weeks which you can find over ther.

With spring practice beginning in one month it is time to turn the attention back to Buckeye baseball and get ready for the season.

With that there will be a few changes, changes that I hope are for the better.

To help me and perhaps you as well a more effective posting pattern will occur. No longer will releases simply be copied and pasted, but three times a day, at 10AM, 4PM, and 10PM will I post to the site. With the posts will be a summarization of releases and thoughts wrapped into one. It saves you the time of reading multiple and long releases, and it provides an easier way of spreading news.

It might hinder the breaking news, and finding news here first, but it should provide more informative information in being able to gather thoughts and add more opinionated content this year.

Once the season comes around I'll have a few daily fixtures of original content posted during the noon readings. More info will come on that once the final ideas are narrowed.

So beginning Monday we'll be back at full force and ready to go.

We wish all a safe and wonderful 2010, a year with a trip to Omaha hopefully on hand.

New contributor to the Buckeye Nine

As many of you know I currently still am a student at Ohio State. The 15 credit hours, plus two part time jobs and other volunteer efforts, at times make it difficult to keep on schedule with writing, stories, ad projects as I intend.

Last Monday I lost my grandfather to lung cancer and it has been a pretty emotional time. I apologies for the lakc of updates last week as planned, but hopefully you can understand having other priorities in life.

With that I have decided, and I hope Todd has my approval, to add a contributor to the site in a good friend of mine, Matt Brown.

I will let Matt add a few words of his own, but Matt is a 2009 graduate of Ohio State, has wrote professionally (unlike I) and currently is a teacher in New Orleans. Matt also helped me and the Buckeye Nine this past spring, contributing for the Buckeye Nine's Tournament Central if you remember.

With everything I have going on and Matt's professionalism, this is a great addition I feel to the B9, and hopefully you will agree as well. I, and we, continue to do our best to cover Ohio State baseball.

Live Chat

Live Chat Sunday 9/13 7 PM

Decision is I will open up a chat on Cover it Live. The same format as the College Baseball Blog used during their chats as well as I believe Rogers at Rivals.

Figure even if it just myself and BaseballBucks and our favorite Wolverine, it will still be nice to discuss baseball, especially after the pounding the football team will get from USC the previous night. A welcomed distraction if you will. Time is set for 7, that small break between the end of the 4 PM NFL games and the prime time game.

For those who want to participate I would love to have you. For those doing so, or even if not and just want to observe if you have a question that you're dying to ask, or have something you want addressed feel free to shoot me an email and I'll bring it up and responde. The Buckeye Nine does have its email address listed here, but my personal email cmwebb24@gmail.com is easier and faster since I wouldn't have to rely on Todd (Lamb not Bob) forwarding the messages to me.

I'll have some quotes from those in the know about college baseball Sorenson, DeCaussin, etc, some summer stories and insight, a few player reaction and thoughts, and whatever else.

Hope it is a good experience and if all goes well maybe it can become a regularity.

Buckeye Nine Live Chat 9/13

Help me out readers.

Would there be any interest in a live chat sometime during the evening of Sunday September 13th, the eve of the first fall ball practices?

Figured and hope it could be a chance to interact, answer a few questions, add insight on a slew of things such as summer baseball, buckeyes in the minors, 2010 draft stock, incoming freshman, position battles, random thoughts, etc.

Just looking for ways to help put a spotlight on the baseball program and give info, insight, and coverage for the fans, parents, and friends of the program.

A simple poll is on the right, yes or no will do. A decision will be made by this Sunday the 6th. Thanks, and as always your feedback is much appreciated.

Sorenson Does it Again

College Baseball Today's Eric Sorenson again proves his worth to the college baseball world, and the fact he IS the best when it comes to giving northern schools its due credit and coverage.

For those unaware Sorenson was in Columbus, as well as Dayton, and Chillicothe checking out the Big Ten, MAC, and A-10 tournaments. I was able to catch up and talk to him the days he was at Huntington Park and the guy knows his college baseball.

For the few knuckleheads out there who do not check out his site, one what are you waiting for? two its the most comprehensive coverage of the sport. He gives the Buckeye Nine and myself a shout out and obviously I'm returning the favor. Go through his last few posts and see his thoughts on Columbus, the Big Ten, Ohio State and some cool pictures.

Small Change to the Buckeye Nine

For those familiar and have been posting comments here already I appreciate it and it adds to the content here.

I'm going to try an experiment and open comments to everyone, so now you do not have to be registered with google/blogger to post.

I can follow the traffic and the amount of people who come to the Buckeye Nine and it surprisingly attracts a nice share of visitors. Hopefully lifting the registered user requirement will open some more activity and engaging between those who follow and support the team.

The change is subject to change back at any time if it doesn't go well, which I doubt. So hey everyone who has wanted to comment but didn't want to go through with the hassle to sign up have it. The Buckeyes are having a special season and everyone should be able to enjoy it. Thanks!

Buckeyes Big Ten Champs, Tournament #1 Seed

With winning the Big Ten's regular season championship, the Bucks going into the Big Ten Tournament as the #1 seed. In other years this would ensure Columbus hosting the Big Ten Tournament at Bill Davis Stadium. This year the Big Ten decided to go to a pre-determined site, and lo and behold the site picked before the season was Huntington Park downtown. So our guys get to still sleep in their beds and have all th accommodations that would go with the traditional hosting rights, but they get to play in beautiful Huntington Park.

The Buckeye Nine has spawned a new branch or addition to the site, hoping to provide more coverage than normal as the Bucks continue their special season. If you haven't noticed to the right, there is a new link under Ohio State Baseball Links, in The Buckeye Nine Tournament Central. By going here to the B9 Tourney Central, you can get up to the minute and more coverage of the Big Ten tournament.

Once the Buckeyes win the tournament title, hopefully, the content will flip over the the NCAA tournament and follow the Buckeyes in Regionals and beyond. The Buckeye Nine will still have Ohio State content throughout both tournaments, but this allows for other issues outside of Ohio State to be address. In some cases content might be duplicated but hey the more the merrier. Also with the help of a friend or two, original stories and content will be provided relating to game articles, previews, interviews, and other media.

Already posted is a short interview the Buckeye Nine had with the Greater Columbus Sports Commission, asking a few questions in how the Big Ten Tournament came to Columbus, their role in it, what to expect, and their goals and events. Also the Big Ten Tournament bracket is available with a link to the printable version. The first of the 6 Big Ten teams that made the Tournament previews are available in 6-seed Purdue.

B9 Welcomes New Correspondent

After I announced my new job as assistant commissioner of communications with the Southland Conference, I got an email from Chris Webb, a.k.a. to fans of The Buckeye Nine as Rockybuckeye, who suggested he would be interested in helping provide content to this Blog. He will be a "voulunteer correspondant" for The Buckeye Nine.

Chris grew up knowing Matt Angle and followed Ohio State baseball when the former Whitehall H.S. product began playing for the Buckeyes. He has followed the team for four years, supporting the team at home and on the road. A sport and leisure studies major with a minor in communications, Chris is a student employee at the OSU Ice Rink.

I know he has relationships with many of the players and I suspect he'll be bringing readers of The Buckeye Nine up to speed on their summer exploits, while hopefully providing valuable insight as the team approaches the start of fall ball in early September.

Chris was a huge help during the 2008 season and was one of the most habitual posters and was often one of the first to offer comment. He also encouraged significant discussion throughout the season and I suspect that will continue in the near future. I'm looking forward to great things for the site with his contribution.

Welcome Chris!

Back in the Game

As of Monday, Aug. 11, I will be back in the game, so to speak. That is the day I become the assistant commissioner for communications for the Southland Conference. The SLC is a Division I conference that is in the Football Championship Subdivision.

Its member schools are: Central Arkansas, Lamar, McNeese State, Nichols State, Northwestern State, Sam Houston State, Southeastern (La.), Stephen F. Austin, Texas-Arlington, Texas-San Antonio, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas State.

The position fell into my lap. Last fall after I fell victim to the reorganization in the Texas Rangers' front office, I applied for a different job with the SLC and they had kept my resume on file. I got a call in late June and interviewed the first week of July. The offer didn't come for roughly 10 days later but I prepared for a decision. While I have enjoyed my time as the director of communications for Delta Delta Delta Fraternity, my heart remained with sports. It was an extremely difficult decision because I had developed a special bond with my coworkers there in a very short period of time. I enjoyed the work I was doing and would be more than content to stay there had this opportunity not come about.

One of the reasons I started this blog last February was to stay connected to sports. Now that I will be back in sports, my future with this Blog is in question. While I will always be a Buckeye, I am not convinced I can devote the amount of time needed to cover the Buckeye Nine the way those players deserve. I will say I am exploring some options that will enable the Blog to continue. My role in it, however, might lessen or perhaps come to an end.

In the meantime, enjoy what is left of your summer. The football team reports for practice Sunday so Ohio State athletics news will begin to pick up and fall ball is just around the corner.

Go Bucks!

New Blog to Follow Buckeyes

Welcome to The Buckeye Nine, a new blog created to follow Ohio State Baseball. My name is Todd Lamb and I created the blog to give fans the opportunity to follow Buckeye Baseball and to provide a forum for discussion about the team. Some of you may recognize me. I was the athletics communications contact for Ohio State baseball for parts of six seasons (2002-2007). It is my hope this site will provide more in depth coverage of the Ohio State baseball team and baseball in the Big Ten. I ask for your patience as I figure out how to publish my first blog.

GO BUCKS!
