Thank you, and Glad to Be Here!

First, I want to take the time to thank Todd. I very much appreciate the chance to contribute to such a fine blog. Hopefully I can do whatever it takes, to continue the high quality the blog brings, and to keep everyone interested in Ohio State baseball informed.

With that over the next few days I will gather what information I can and fill in everyone on how our Buckeyes are doing in their summer leagues, as well as the Buckeyes that have moved on and are playing in the professional ranks.

Again, thank you Todd, you have created a great outlet, and for the readers, I hope I do not disappoint and offer posts you enjoy.

Back in the Game

As of Monday, Aug. 11, I will be back in the game, so to speak. That is the day I become the assistant commissioner for communications for the Southland Conference. The SLC is a Division I conference that is in the Football Championship Subdivision.

Its member schools are: Central Arkansas, Lamar, McNeese State, Nichols State, Northwestern State, Sam Houston State, Southeastern (La.), Stephen F. Austin, Texas-Arlington, Texas-San Antonio, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas State.

The position fell into my lap. Last fall after I fell victim to the reorganization in the Texas Rangers' front office, I applied for a different job with the SLC and they had kept my resume on file. I got a call in late June and interviewed the first week of July. The offer didn't come for roughly 10 days later but I prepared for a decision. While I have enjoyed my time as the director of communications for Delta Delta Delta Fraternity, my heart remained with sports. It was an extremely difficult decision because I had developed a special bond with my coworkers there in a very short period of time. I enjoyed the work I was doing and would be more than content to stay there had this opportunity not come about.

One of the reasons I started this blog last February was to stay connected to sports. Now that I will be back in sports, my future with this Blog is in question. While I will always be a Buckeye, I am not convinced I can devote the amount of time needed to cover the Buckeye Nine the way those players deserve. I will say I am exploring some options that will enable the Blog to continue. My role in it, however, might lessen or perhaps come to an end.

In the meantime, enjoy what is left of your summer. The football team reports for practice Sunday so Ohio State athletics news will begin to pick up and fall ball is just around the corner.

Go Bucks!

Back to Work

Since a few of you have asked about my job search and I alluded to a potential opportunity in a post last weekend, I decided I had better let you know what is going on. On Tuesday, yes, April Fools Day (though this is no joke), I started a new position as the director of communications with the national office of Delta Delta Delta sorority located in Arlington, Texas. It seems odd for a guy with more than 13 years experience in college athletics and professional sports to find work for a sorority, but I am excited about this opportunity.

It is funny sometimes how opportunities come about. I saw the job posted on CareerBuiler and didn't really give it any serious thought at first. When my wife asked me if I had seen the posting, I told her I had but never thought in a million years they would hire someone like me for that job. She convinced me to apply and before I knew it I had interviewed and accepted their offer. I was extremely impressed with the entire organization and my university background makes me a good fit. Plus, the work week is just 35 hours and the pay is good. That will all be quite a change for me, but I'm looking forward to it. Of 43 employees at the executive office, I am one of only four men. I wonder if my wife is still happy she encouraged me to apply.

I will supervise a communications team to manage Tri Delta's brand, to provide marketing and promotional support for the organization and its affiliates, and to create and produce a variety of communications tools over multiple channels, including print, online, video and oral presentations. I will be responsible for producing a quarterly magazine, The Trident, and monthy e-newsletters, alumnae relations newsletters, the Web site, logos, themes, photography, audio/visual presentations, speech scripts, event pograms and other collateral.

It's just a bit ironic I'm working for them now since I never could get a Tri Delta to give me the time of day when I was in college.

I have every intention to continue this blog. I am a life-long fan of Ohio State (BA Journalism, 1994) and will forever be passionate about the Baseball Buckeyes.

New Blog to Follow Buckeyes

Welcome to The Buckeye Nine, a new blog created to follow Ohio State Baseball. My name is Todd Lamb and I created the blog to give fans the opportunity to follow Buckeye Baseball and to provide a forum for discussion about the team. Some of you may recognize me. I was the athletics communications contact for Ohio State baseball for parts of six seasons (2002-2007). It is my hope this site will provide more in depth coverage of the Ohio State baseball team and baseball in the Big Ten. I ask for your patience as I figure out how to publish my first blog.
