Not much to say, well there is but you get the point.
While I'm feeling a lot better, I still have a lingering cough and wasn't able to take in any of the final three games this weekend.
I'll be back running tomorrow, knock on wood, and will go deeper into my thoughts on the season, and who knows what else.
But for now congrats to the eight student-athletes who ended their careers today with the 9-6 win over Minnesota.

Bucks Take Two of Three from Wildcats
Really there isn't much to say about the weekend, it pretty much went as expected.
I think we should feel comfortable expecting to take every series, with an occasional sweep against Iowa or Purdue, ultimately ending with a Big Ten mark not too far from the 18-6 2009 campaign.
A solid pitching performance was followed by two games of serviceable pitching. For two games the offense was there. An error-free game was followed by a three-error game. Ho-hum.
I don't advocate being content, but given the horrible schedule the Buckeyes faced in Florida, there will be no at-large berth this season and no "need" to ring up x amount of wins. It's Big Ten Tournament or bust, which we luckily host at Bill Davis Stadium.
So for the next seven weekends, I'm fine taking two of three, with some improvement here or there, securing one of the top two spots come conference tournament play and letting the dominoes fall.
But back to the weekend.

Buckeyes Sweep Cadets, Improve to 16-2
No. 22 Ohio State defeated Army twice Saturday at Chain of Lakes Field, 3-1 and 8-4, to improve to 16-2 on the season and extend its winning streak to eight games. Army, which had come into the day a winner of four consecutive games, drops to 6-8 overall.
A five-run third inning broke a 3-all tie in the nightcap and gave the Buckeyes a comfortable, five-run cushion, 8-3. The big inning included four hits and two Cadet errors. Michael Stephens and Ryan Dew each singled and scored in the inning and Cory Rupert walked and scored. All three scored on the big hit of the inning: Matt Streng’s bases-loaded triple, his third of the year, down the right field line.
Starter Eric Best picked up a win in his third consecutive appearance. He also pitched at least 5.0 innings for the third consecutive game. The junior, now 3-0 on the season, gave up five hits and three runs before turning the game over to Drew Rucinski in the sixth inning.
Army scored a run in the sixth to creep to within 8-4, but Jake Hale came into the game in the seventh and, for the eighth consecutive game, allowed no runs and finished out an Ohio State win.
For the Buckeyes offensively, Streng led with two hits, two runs scored and the three RBI. Zach Hurley and Dew also had two hits.
A combined two-hitter from Dean Wolosiansky and Drew Rucinski, coupled with just enough run support, enabled the Buckeyes to win game one against Army, 3-1.
Ohio State starter Wolosiansky (3-1) went 4.1 innings and allowed just one hit and one run before exiting in the fifth. Rucinski came on in relief and pitched the final 2.2 innings without allowing a run to get his second save of the season.
Rupert hit a solo home run over the 380-foot mark in left center field – his second of the year – to give the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead. The Cadets matched the score with a run in the third off a walk, sacrifice and RBI double by Zach Price.
Army left a man on from the second through the sixth innings, but Dan Burkhart gunned down a runner attempting to steal third in the fourth, and Rucinski struck out two looking to end the fifth inning and halt two of Army’s best chances to add to its score.
Stephens opened the fifth with a triple over the center fielder’s head and scored on Burkhart’s sacrifice fly, giving the Buckeyes the lead once again at 2-1. Ohio State added an insurance run in the seventh. Cory Kovanda singled, went to second on a sacrifice, to third on a passed ball and he scored on Justin Miller’s sacrifice fly.

Bucks Split Doubleheader, but Boilers Win Series
Ohio State clearly had to be feeling good. After losing the first two games of the series to Purdue, the Buckeyes took the opening game of a Sunday twinbill by an 8-4 count. In game two, they had led 5-1 through seven and appeared to be cruising to a series split, but then the bottom fell out and they ended up losing 7-5.
Ohio State recap
Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score
The Buckeyes led 5-1 late in the first game and allowed three runs in the sixth before coming back with three of their own for a four-run victory. In the second game, they led by the same margin heading to the eighth, but Purdue scored three runs to make it a one-run game. Ohio State got nothing in the bottom of the eighth.
In the top of the ninth Buckeye killer Ryne White hit a three-run bomb to right. White hit two home runs Friday nearly single-handedly win the opener. Sunday he won the finale. There were two on and one out when he came to the plate so there was clearly a spot open for him on base. I’m fairly certain I would have taken my chances on Jordan Comadena and Dan Black who followed White’s heroics. Comadena ended up grounding out and Black struck out, though clearly they were up in non-pressure situations and a two-run lead rather than trying to make something happen.
Shuck, the starting pitcher in game two, went 7.0 innings and allowed just one run on four hits. He struck out seven and walked two. Alex Wimmers gave up the homer to White. Those were the only runs he allowed on two hits in 2.0 innings. The loss was his first collegiate decision.
After three RBI in the first game, Miller went a perfect 4-for-4 and drove in another run in game two. The Cories each added two hits. Cory Kovanda was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Cory Rupert was 2-for-4. Purdue scored its seven runs on eight hits and committed an error while Ohio State scored five runs on 11 hits and committed two errors.
In game one, he Buckeyes built a 5-1 lead through the first three innings of game one and survived a three-run sixth by the Boilermakers that pulled them within a 5-4 score. The Buckeye Nine scored three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to reclaim a four-run lead. Tyler Engle and Shuck delivered singles with one out. Then after another out the runners both moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Engle scored on a single by pinch hitter Michael Arp and Miller plated two more with a single to left.
Shuck was 2-for-3 and Kovanda was 2-for-4 though it was Miller’s three RBI that propelled Ohio State, which finished the game with 12 hits and two errors. Every Buckeye with a plate appearance had a hit. Purdue collected nine hits, including eight off OSU starter Dean Wolosiansky, who pitched 5.2 innings to get the win. He is now 5-2. Eric Best pitched the final 1.1 innings.

More Friday Night Fireworks
Ohio State turned back Minnesota, 11-6, Friday in the opener of a four-game set at Bill Davis Stadium (box score). The Buckeyes used 13 hits and five Golden Gopher errors to earn the win before fireworks lit up the sky.

Ohio State Wins Home Opener, 9-1, vs. Pitt
Check out The-Ozone.net photo gallery from the game.
The Buckeyes claimed a 9-1 victory vs. Pittsburgh Wednesday (box score) afternoon in the team's home opener. The win, which ushered in the 12th season at Bill Davis Stadium, was the team's 10th "W" of the year in 16 tries.
Ohio State out hit the Panthers 11-5 and got three RBI from Ryan Meade in a 2-for-5 afternoon. Cory Kovanda and Cory Rupert also had two hits. Tony Kennedy doubled in his only official at bat. He also walked three times. The Buckeyes drew six walks in the game and struck out only five times.
Starting pitcher Andrew Armstrong allowed one unearned, first-inning run on two hits in his 5.0-inning outing. Drew Rucinski, Eric Best and Alex Wimmers allowed three hits but kept Pitt off the scoreboard in their four combined innings.
After Pitt scored in the first, the Buckeyes took the lead in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs, added two more in the second, another in the fifth and then exploded for four more in the sixth. Click here to read the Pitt recap.
Each team committed an error. Just 636 fans watched the Wednesday matinee. I'm sure the crowds will be much better this weekend in the four games against Penn State.

Ugh! Bucks Lose to Air Force 9-8
With the score tied and the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Ohio State pitcher Drew Rucinski hit Air Force second baseman Jon McMahon to give the Falcons a 9-8 win over the Buckeyes (box score) in the opening game of the Papa John’s Palm Beach Challenge.
The Buckeyes took an 8-6 lead in the top of the inning after Cory Rupert drove in J.B. Shuck, who led off the inning with a triple. Rupert scored on a ground-ball, double play. Eric Best returned to the mound in the bottom of the inning and gave up a lead-off single before getting a strikeout. But the Buckeyes went with Rucinski, who hit his first batter, Nathan Carter, before giving up a two-run triple to Addison Gentry. Rucinski walked Ben Ausbun, then intentionally walked Jason Griggs to load the bases before his second hit by pitch cost the Buckeyes the game.
It is a tough loss for the Buckeyes, who fell to 4-3. It was the third win for Air Force in 10 games this season. Ohio State, which committed two errors, out-hit its opponent 12-9. Rupert led the team with three hits in the No. 2 spot in the lineup. Lead-off batter J.B. Shuck and Cory Kovanda, batting ninth, each had two hits. Dan DeLucia got the start and lasted five innings, allowing two runs on six hits. He did not have a strikeout but walked one.
The Buckeyes play Maine Saturday at 5 p.m. and close out the weekend vs. UConn Sunday at noon.
