Ohio State scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to fuel the team to a 14-8 victory to complete the doubleheader sweep of Illinois Saturday at Bill Davis Stadium. It was the first doubleheader sweep by the Buckeyes this season.
Box Scores: Game One Game Two
The Buckeyes built a 3-1 lead through three innings only to see the Illini take the lead with seven runs in the top of the fifth. Ohio State came right back to take a 13-8 lead thanks to timely hitting, including a three-run double by Justin Miller.

The Buckeyes pounded out 16 hits, including doubles by Michael Arp, Miller and Rupert, who also tripled.
Eric Best earned the win in relief after getting the save in game one. He allowed one hit and walked two in his 1.1 innings of work. He replaced Dean Wolosiansky who was roughed up for eight runs on seven hits in 4.0 innings. He did not record a strikeout and walked two. Alex Wimmers pitched the final 1.1 innings and struck out three.
The Buckeyes are now 27-22 overall and moved into fourth place in the league standings with a 13-13 record. Illinois slipped to 29-20 and 15-12.
The teams conclude the series tomorrow with a 1:05 p.m. scheduled first pitch. Severe weather could wash out the finale. Columbus has only a 90 percent chance of rain in the Mother's Day forecast.

Not a good start to a huge weekend.
Yeah we left at 8:40 as the tarp was going on. Have not heard any new info. The last thing i heard on the radio is to try and finish this game Sat. and then try and play the DH after that.
Bad night for Hale on the hill.He was hit pretty hard.Of course the 4 errors did not help at all.Sad to say,but the guys were not ready to play tonight. No fire or postive engery from the home team.
Go Bucks!
Game susp. until tomorrow at 1:05 pm. 7-2 mid 7th. DH will follow the completion of the game.
PSU-Iowa still at 5's in the 8th.
Michigan up 1-0 on Minny. Recknagel with a solo shot. Fetter on the mound, no Putnam, not batting either.
There are 3 players hitting the ball with authority right now. Hurley, Delucia, and Arp.
These players play the least amount of any players that get playing time.
That's OK, BT can sit at home during the Big Ten tournament and sing "I did it my way", while the top 6 teams play.
Agreed. I really can't think of any recent athlete, regardless of level and sport, that is getting shafted as much as Arp is. Really how do you continue to not play a player that does nothing but produce? It makes no sense. Someone please enlighten me.
I agree. Dew and Rupert had a rough game tonight. Rupert with a couple bad plays at the hot corner and Dew could not get the bunt down with 2 on.Nothing personal against Ryan, but Arp gets that done. B.Delucia is hot and sits.Come on Bob.
Then we hit and run with Gus on 2nd and Rupert at the Plate.Gus was out by a country mile at 3rd.
Ugly night all the way around including the weather!
A couple of Lou Holtz sayings come to mind -what do you think of your teams execution? Holtz, "I"m all for it". Burkhart can pick up a bunt for an easy double play. Hale can't field a ball for a double play, Dew can lay down a sacrifice bunt, Rupert can get the bat on the ball in a hit and run situation. This kind of stuff has been going on all season. Holtz said "we're small but slow" and that's this team. You would think that a team that can't hit would have great defense and speed but this team is weak in all categories. This is the group that BT recruited and starts game after game so this must be the team he wanted/wants. I wish I knew what he sees.

Great day at the Bill today.
Finally a DH sweep. Big wins today with Miller coming through all day at the plate! Went 5-9 with 2 2B and 7 RBI. Way to go Gus.
Delucia was great in game 1 and for the most part we played good defense all day.Dean W was off in game 2, but the bats came though big in the 5th.
Weather looks bad for Sunday, but hey we got the series 2-1 right now.Always want to play, but if we lose it to Mother Nature. Not a bad thing in the standings really.
Go Bucks!
Purdue and State split. Who woulda thought Sparty would be up 2-1 in that series right now?
Michigan and Minnesota get rained out. DH tomorrow.
NW-IU split.
PSU swept Iowa
Michigan 21-4
Purdue 18-9
Illinois 16-11
Penn State 14-13
Ohio State 13-13
Northwestern 13-14
MSU 12-14
Indiana 10-17
Minnesota 8-17
Iowa 8-19
So as you can see we're in 5th, 1/2game above 6th place NW/MSU. We're better than we were today at 2pm. Hardly safe though.
Michigan's magic number is 2. If they take both at Minnesota they're the 2008 league champions, as well as if they split, and Purdue takes a loss. Michigan and Purdue have clinced tourney bids. Michigan a first round bye. Illinois will clinch a spot with a win and MSU loss. That is all that can be settled this weekend. 4-7 will have a lot of people on their toes, eyes on the scoreboard next weekend.
Would think the schedule favors OSU and MSU as State hosts Indiana next weekend, NW travels to Michigan, and we travel to Iowa.
Game 4 cancelled. Not good, we can't afford to lose chances to get W's.
Around the league.
PSU up 11-3 on Iowa in the 8th.
Nothing on MSU/Purdue or IU/NW
PSU will be in 4th by a full game.
Ohio State-Illinois game today Rained out.
Game will not be made up per Big Ten Rules. OSU wins series 2-1,thank god we took the DH yesterday.
Yeah they did not try to hard to get this one in.That does hurt with the mess the standings are. Really wanted to play today sometime.
Michigan up 1-0 on the Gophers in the 5th.Recknagel with RBI # 60 on the year.
Michigan 21-4
Purdue 18-9
Illinois 15-12
Penn State 15-13
Ohio State 13-13
Northwestern 13-14
MSU 12-14
Indiana 10-17
Minnesota 8-17
Iowa 8-20
NW-Indiana is looking to start at 4. No word on MSU-Purdue.
MSU Purdue got rained out. The Spartans win that series 2-1.
Michigan up 5-4 bottom of the 6th. Minnesota has 1st and 3rd,1 out with Jeff Desmidt at the plate.
2008 Big Ten

Really a mess for the Bucks, lost a lot of tough games this year to teams ahead and behind us.A season of what if's.With a win Tuesday our Home record will be 14-10. But only 8-7 vs. the Big Ten at home.
May (15-17)Thur.-Sat.
NW at Michigan
Penn St. at Minny
Indiana at Mich St.
Purdue at Illinois
OSU at Iowa
Bucks need this series big time.Hope to see the hot hitting continue in Iowa City.
I actually think not playing that last game favors us. I think we had a 50/50 shot at winning and another loss really hurts us. We won the series and NU/MSU are a game behind us - both would need to pass OSU to knock us out of the playoffs.
NU plays at Michigan so I do not see them making up 2 games on us this weekend to put us into 7th. As we learned last year - you just ahve to make it in and anything can happen
