Early Signing Period Wrap Pt. I
As mentioned yesterday the Early Signing Period is Nov. 10-17. While many student-athletes have ceremonies and submit their NLI on the first day of the period, the entire week is allowed for the letters to be submitted.
As a result Ohio State provided a release stating Aaron Gretz, Eric Haase, Matt Panek, and Matt Wisler did indeed submit their NLIs and are officially a part of Buckeye Nation.

Buckeye Baseball Alumni Gathering Planned
One of the things I put at the top of my "wants" for the new Buckeye baseball coach once Bob Todd made aware his plans to retire, was a coach that reconnects with OSU alumni. For whatever the reason may be, the presence of Ohio State baseball alumni has not quite been what it should be.
It was also one of the first things I spoke to new coach Greg Beals about and he too mentioned that reaching out to alumni would be a priority of his. Beals has kept his word and has created an "alumni weekend" if you will, in an attempt to welcome alumni back to the program, strengthen the bond of the current program and those who help shaped it.

Beals on Recruiting Trail at Legion Tourney
Came after this after completing today's news and notes, and didn't want to save it until tomorrow.
A colleague of mine within the Newspaper Nework of Central Ohio, Sean Golden of the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette has a story in today's paper about the State Legion Tournament. The tournament being played out in Lancaster has had it's share of college coaches on hand scouting the talent, headed by Ohio State's Greg Beals. It's a fun read and shows that Beals is staying true to his word and hitting the recruiting trail hard.

Q&A with Teddy Cahill of Ball State Daily News
The Buckeye Nine continues its coverage into the hiring of Greg Beals as Ohio State's new baseball coach. While Beals may be a mystery man to many of the Buckeye faithful, to Teddy Cahill he is not. Cahill has been a beat writer of Ball State during Beals tenure with the Cardinal and can provide more insight into the Buckeyes new coach than anyone.

Interview with Greg Beals
Later than expected, but it is indeed better late than never.
Earlier this week I was able to speak to new Ohio State baseball coach Greg Beals and touch on a few areas that are critical to the growth of Ohio State baseball. From recruiting, to connection with alumni, and ultimately a goal of Omaha, it was great to hear Coach Beals' excitement in taking over for the departed Bob Todd.
Coach Beals was returning from a recruiting trip and was on his cell phone so it might be a bit difficult to hear him at times, but I wanted to provide the interview in it's audio format to allow a truer sense of his vision for the Buckeyes.

Ball State's Greg Beals set to be Next Buckeye Coach
It appears Ohio State has it's next baseball coach, and it is unfolding to be a darkhorse. His name was floated around in the beginning stages of the search but few saw Ball State coach Greg Beals as the next coach at Ohio State.
From what I've gathered just the dotting of the i's and crossing of the t's is left for Beals.
A quick bio for those who might not know much of Beals..
Beals just finished his 8th season as head coach of the Ball State Cardinals. In his time in Muncie BSU has gone 243-202. Under Beals Ball State has won three MAC-West titles, and one MAC Tournament Championship. The MAC tournament title came in 2006 as Ball State recorded perhaps its biggest victory in school history as the Cardinal defeated #1 seed and host Kentucky in the Lexington Regional. In his eight season Beals has led Ball State to a winning campaign in all but one.
Prior to Ball State Beals was an assistant at his alma mater of Kent State for nine seasons. Beals was a Golden Flash as a player from 89-91, capping his career in Kent by being a 22nd round draft pick of the New York Mets. Beals was a Mets farmhand for three seasons before returning to KSU where he graduated in 1995.
Under Beals Ball State has had 18 draft picks, including the 2010 MAC Player of the Year Kolbrin Vitek, a first round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox, and pitcher Perci Garner a second round draft pick of the Philadelphia Phillies. Beals is 2-2 as Ball State's head coach against Ohio State, including a 20-8 victory in 2009.
Beals has recruited Ohio well. In addition to Vitek and Garner, Beals has seen Ohio products, Justin Warrington, Kyle Raleigh, Blake Beemer, and Michael Sandman of late cross the Indiana state line.

And if I'm wrong, oh well. Wouldn't be the first time someone misspoke on Ohio State's next coach as Kendall Rogers falsely reported it would be Kent State's Scott Stricklin on June 5th.
