It appears Ohio State has it's next baseball coach, and it is unfolding to be a darkhorse. His name was floated around in the beginning stages of the search but few saw Ball State coach Greg Beals as the next coach at Ohio State.
From what I've gathered just the dotting of the i's and crossing of the t's is left for Beals.
A quick bio for those who might not know much of Beals..
Beals just finished his 8th season as head coach of the Ball State Cardinals. In his time in Muncie BSU has gone 243-202. Under Beals Ball State has won three MAC-West titles, and one MAC Tournament Championship. The MAC tournament title came in 2006 as Ball State recorded perhaps its biggest victory in school history as the Cardinal defeated #1 seed and host Kentucky in the Lexington Regional. In his eight season Beals has led Ball State to a winning campaign in all but one.
Prior to Ball State Beals was an assistant at his alma mater of Kent State for nine seasons. Beals was a Golden Flash as a player from 89-91, capping his career in Kent by being a 22nd round draft pick of the New York Mets. Beals was a Mets farmhand for three seasons before returning to KSU where he graduated in 1995.
Under Beals Ball State has had 18 draft picks, including the 2010 MAC Player of the Year Kolbrin Vitek, a first round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox, and pitcher Perci Garner a second round draft pick of the Philadelphia Phillies. Beals is 2-2 as Ball State's head coach against Ohio State, including a 20-8 victory in 2009.
Beals has recruited Ohio well. In addition to Vitek and Garner, Beals has seen Ohio products, Justin Warrington, Kyle Raleigh, Blake Beemer, and Michael Sandman of late cross the Indiana state line.

And if I'm wrong, oh well. Wouldn't be the first time someone misspoke on Ohio State's next coach as Kendall Rogers falsely reported it would be Kent State's Scott Stricklin on June 5th.

Hiatus Over, What's Next for Buckeye Baseball
I'm back.
Basically had to fight off a viral infection for the last three weeks that wanted me dead. Throw in the end of the quarter, finals, work, etc, it's been a rough month.
A lot has happened over the last three weeks. Alex Wimmers has twice been named 1st team All-America. He, Dan Burkhart, and Zach Hurley were selected last week in the MLB First-Year Player Draft. There is also this thing with the head coaching vacancy, that is in it's final days.
I've learned not to set deadlines, it causes stress and leaves everyone disappointed when I can't meet them, but here is what I would like to do this week.
