Update from the Valley League

I got a great update on Alex Wimmers, Drew Rucinski and Andrew Armstrong who are playing in the Valley League.

From Jim Rucinski...
Four of the freshmen pitchers are playing in the Valley League this summer. All of them are off to a great start. Wimmers, Rucinski, and Armstrong are playing for the Luray Wranglers; Wolosiansky is playing for the Haymarket Senators.

Although Rucinski has a 0-1 record, he has pitched into the eight inning twice and did not get a decision. Against Front Royal he left the game with a 2-1 lead and the bases empty with one out. Against Woodstock he left the game with a 2-0 lead with one runner on base and no outs. Wimmers has been lights out as usual.

Thanks for the update.

Well we have an "official update"

The department of athletics is a day late and a dollar short, as everything they spoke of, has already been discussed here. They unfortunately offer no info on a few of the myster players that 4/6 asked about.

Yeah i really wish i could find these guys playing ball somewhere this summer. I have looked in a lot of the summer leagues i know and found nothing.

Really would hope these guys are playing somewhere.

Well according to JJ, Engle had surgery, who knew, and probably is not playing. Same with Barerra coming off surgery in April. I don't think we ever found a definite answer if Minium red-shirted due to injury or what.

I guess I can just ask Arp what he's up to.

I think Streng, Barnes, Hanlin and another player are playing in C-bus this summer for the Big Katz college team. Not sure about Strayer but thought he might be playing on that team, too. Also heard that Strayer might have an arm or shoulder problem (hard to believe, huh?) but that was a month or so ago so who knows...

This is what I heard during the season in regards to Minium...they were red-shirting him to give him a year to get "stronger", whatever the hell that means.

Yes, DJ Hanlin and Matt Streng are playing for the Columbus Big Katz. I think DJ dad is the coach.I have not heard about Jared Strayer's arm injury. Hope that is just a rumor,we don't need any more arm injures for pitchers at OSU.

Worth note:

Eric Fryer was named South Atlantic League hitter of the week.

http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080707&content_id=428765&vkey=news_milb&fext=.jsp

His line for the week is ungodly.

.682 (15-22), 5 R, 4 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 11 RBI, 3 BB, 3 SO, 1 SB, 1.091 SLG

Also a nice article after his 5-for-5, 3 double, 6 RBI game last night.

He singled to start tonights game.

Who hits .365 in their first full minor league season, with an OPS of 1.000? Unreal.

Congrats to Eric.

Also Angle went 4-for-6 and DeLucia picked up his 1st win.
