While the final product is far from a reality, a few interesting tidbits have been made public or shared of the Ohio State schedule that can be passed along.
As shared by opposing coach Dan McDonnell the midweek series between Louisville and Ohio State is set to resume after the year hiatus, though the teams did tangle in game two of the season in the Big East-Big Ten Challenge.
The dates with the Cardinals are just two games against consistent NCAA Regional programs fans can expect the Buckeyes to face next season.

2011 Schedule Released
Last week Coach Beals gave the ok to allow the official release of the Buckeyes 2011 schedule via the Ohio State Department of Athletics' Athletics Communication.
While I've been trying to track down as many non-conference weekend slates as possible via opponents schedules and speaking to other coaches around the country, there is one major change that what once was thought, while everything else is as expected.
In something that I first mentioned when passing the news as a potential hang up, due to finals week, Ohio State will not be partaking in the Dodgertown Classic with UCLA, USC, and Georgia after all. Instead the Buckeyes will head down to Winter Haven to participate in the RussMatt Invitational against opponents to be determined.
Though disappointing, the blow of the cancellation of the Los Angeles trip is lessens when looking at the rest of the solid schedule Beals put together for his first campaign in Columbus.

More Buckeye 2011 Scheduling Bits
Just spoke to Akron Head Coach Pat Bangtson for a story for Buckeye State Baseball. In speaking to him was informed the Buckeyes will be at Western Carolina the third weekend of the 2011 season for a tournament with Bangtson's Zips as well as Army.
Ohio State played both Akron and Army last season. The last time Ohio state faced Western Carolina was 2007 when the Catamounts came to Columbus for a pair of mid-week games in May sweeping the Bucks 7-3 and 12-2.
That means we have at least half of the Buckeyes non-conference schedule for 2010:

Changes coming to NCAA schedule?
NCAA to vote to override schedule changes
Held this past weekend was the national America Baseball Coaches Association convention. The most concerning issue was what to do with the NCAA Division I college baseball schedule.
Last week the NCAA announced they were set to vote on an override requested to amend the current scheduling process.
As many of you know the NCAA received complaints left and right regarding the universal start date. Among the complaints were how it effect student-athlete travel and classtime spent on the road opposed to travel. That was the politically correct complaint presented by the southern programs.
The honest reason was it exposed their lack of pitching depth, as well as ours here in Columbus, with having to have multiple midweek games, playing five games a week. Something we all know is custom here, pre-Big Ten weekend switch from four to three games.
Anyhow the official NCAA release can be found here While a the article plus a few thoughts from Bowling Green's Danny Schmitz provided courtesy Buckeye State Baseball can be found here (Slight self-promotion)
As you can see all 11 Big Ten institutes were part of the opposition.
Misc.
Other than that news has been quite. We expect Alex Wimmers to be named amongst the Top 100 College Baseball Players in 2010 by the College Baseball Blog, as they enter the final 10 of their countdown. When that happens we will link it.
Also working on a question and answer with the Buckeyes 2010 captains Zach Hurley and Cory Kovanda here in the upcoming days.

Bucks to play NAIA Webber International
Remember how the end of the 2009 spring trip was highlighted by the 5-0 win over nationally ranked host Miami? 2010 will see the Bucks play a game at the complete opposite end of the spectrum.
On March 25th the reigning Big Ten champs, and a team with Omaha aspirations will face a Webber Warriors team that went 25-31 in 2009 and 10-14 in the Sun Conference.

Ohio State visit highlights Webber baseball schedule
The Webber Warriors announced their 2010 spring baseball schedule this week, and it features a visit by the Ohio State Buckeyes in late March.
The Scarlet and Gray are scheduled to play at Heart of Florida Field in Babson Park on March 25. Game time has not been announced.
The Warriors finished the 2009 campaign with a 25-31 overall record and a 10-14 mark in The Sun Conference.
The 2010 Warrior schedule will include 27 Sun Conference games, six games against NCAA-II opponents, and one NCAA-I opponent, Ohio State University, as well as, 21 games versus other NAIA competition. This season Webber International will be playing on 39 of their 55 games at The Heart of Florida Field.
“I feel that we have put together a good mix of returners and newcomers for this upcoming season and look forward to improving from our 2009 season performance,” stated head coach Brad Niethammer.
“We also look to compete against 17 opponents who have received pre-season ranking in the NAIA.”
Ohio State will be in Winter Haven for the second annual RussMatt baseball tournament which last year attracted some 200 college teams playing in the area during a two-month period. Warner University will also host some of the tournament games.
Webber’s schedule opens with a double header at home against Crooked Lake rival Warner University on Jan. 30 at noon. Ohio State visit highlights Webber baseball schedule

I'm not sure why this game was scheduled. Surely there had to be other schools willing to face the Bucks. Schools that would help the Bucks drive to Omaha and allow the Bucks to "measure up" with the rest of the DI world.
To be honest, the Buckeyes should be favored in all 56 games, and at the very least 54 excluding the 2 home dates with Louisville. But as we know baseball is played on the field and things happen that are unexpected. The Buckeyes are facing a schedule that honestly allows very little margin of error.
With the poor quality of opponents this is a team that could go 40-15 and be at home early June with an RPI in the 80s. This game will not hurt the RPI as it is a non-DI opponent, but it is a chance squandered to boost the resume with a top-25, top-50, heck even a top-100 team.
For the strides we're making on the field, occurrences like these are why people across the country are hesitant to give the Bucks any credit, the 37-6 Florida State shelling can also be attributed to that. When Collegiate Baseball ranks the Bucks 14th in their preseason poll, which they have, people laugh and discredit the poll. I know image is a very minute worry and on-field results matter, but if you're fighting for a Regional host, a #1 seed, or a last bubble team, it is a beauty pageant.

Courtesy OhioStateBuckeyes.com
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The schedule for the second BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge is set and the Ohio State baseball team will play South Florida, Notre Dame and Cincinnati in the 20-team, 30-game event that will be held in the St. Petersburg and Clearwater, Fla., area in February.
The Buckeyes, who went 3-0 in the event last year with wins over Notre Dame, Connecticut and Cincinnati, will open Challenge play Friday, Feb. 26 at 4:30 p.m. against South Florida. The game will be played at Al Lang Stadium, which is located in St. Petersburg. This will be the first meeting between the Buckeyes and the Bulls in 13 years. USF is coming off a 34-25 season in 2009, a record that included an 18-7 mark (second) in BIG EAST play. The Bulls were eliminated in the semifinals of the BIG EAST tournament.
Ohio State and Notre Dame will hook up for the second consecutive year in the Challenge Saturday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. The game will be played in Clearwater at the spring training home of the Philadelphia Phillies: Bright House Field. Notre Dame was 36-23 last season and 15-12 in the BIG EAST (fourth). The Fighting Irish lost in the semifinals of the BIG EAST tournament.
The Buckeyes will close their Challenge games Sunday, Feb. 28 against Cincinnati, their Sunday opponent in last year’s event. The teams will square off at 1 p.m. in St. Petersburg at the Naimoli Complex. Cincinnati was 29-29 last season, 13-14 in the BIG EAST and was the eighth seed in the BIG EAST tournament.
A special BIG EAST/Big Ten Baseball Festival, a celebration of spring baseball in Florida, will take place at the Naimoli Complex on Sunday. The site will host six Challenge games throughout the day.
Last year’s Challenge, which featured eight programs from the BIG EAST and all 10 Big Ten baseball-playing institutions, was won by the Big Ten, 15-9. Georgetown, which competed in 2009, will not be back in 2010, allowing newcomers Rutgers, Louisville and Villanova to participate. Rounding out the BIG EAST contingent is Cincinnati, Connecticut, Notre Dame, St. John’s, Seton Hall, South Florida (USF) and West Virginia. Big Ten participants include Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State and Purdue.

2010 Schedule
If 2010 is like 2009, you won't have any sort of schedule from the Department of Athletics until wintertime.
However I'll do my best to piece together bits and pieces of the 56 games the Big Ten defending champs are scheduled to play.
Courtesy of WBIR.com, the University of Tennessee has announced it will host a tournament with the Buckeyes, Vols, Connecticut, and Marshall March 12-14.
March 12 Friday Ohio State vs. Marshall 1 p.m.
March 13 Saturday Tennessee vs. Ohio State 5 p.m.
March 14 Sunday Connecticut vs. Ohio State noon.
Ball State athletics released their schedule, and per par the Cardinals will make a midweek trip to Columbus Wed May 12th. Lets hope 20 unanswered runs will not be the case this time around. Ball State's full schedule
As previously mentioned the Buckeyes will play in the 2nd Big East-Big Ten Challenge Feb 26-28.
In the return trip the Buckeyes host Louisville for a Tuesday-Wednesday pair of games mid-May as that series continues.
Ohio State's 2010 Spring Break is March 22-26, expect games to be played in Florida the 19th through 24th, as Big Ten play I believe will start on the 26th.
Along with the 24 Big Ten games, that gives us a total of 33, only 23 to go!
That is all I have for now. Stay tuned.
