Those who followe my twitter know, but I have had a bit of a family issue with my mother having a tumor and ultimately surgery on the 26 of the month, it's thrown a fell things in loop of late, work hours, financial priorities, actual desire to write, but I'm back for now.
As the weather finally feels a bit like spring, unfortunately the season is in its final stages, in little over two weeks from now the Big Ten will have its representative for the NCAA tournament and nine other schools will be looking at 2012. So as we are in these final weekends, the importance of the games magnify and unfortunately for the Bucks the heat and pressure kicks up a bit with tonight's 7-0 loss to Iowa (8-11, 19-27).

Buckeye Meet the Team Luncheon & Infield Previews
The annual Meet the Team Luncheon is upon us.
The baseball office announced today the Buckeye Diamond Club Meet the Team Luncheon will be held this Saturday, February 13th at the University Plaza Hotel and Conference Center located on Olentangy River Rd. The change in venue as the event was previously held at the Holiday Inn on Lane Ave. is due to the university purchasing the Holiday Inn and converting it into a freshman dorm.
Registration for the event will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the luncheon kicking off at 11:30. This will be the first chance for fans and media alike to be introduced to the 33-member 2010 Ohio State baseball team.
Coach Todd will discuss the season as he enters three wins shy of 1,000 for his career, while his team defends the Big Ten championship. Senior captains Cory Kovanda and Zach Hurley will also have commentary.
Tickets can be purchased by contacting the baseball office at (614)-292-1075.

Courtesy Jerry Emig the SID for the baseball program, and assistant baseball contact Brett Rybak, the Athletics Communications office has preview the Buckeyes 2010 pitching staff and infield.
Changes from the 2009 team around the horn will by Ryan Dew and Matt Streng splitting time at first base and DH. Brad Hallberg returns to the open competition at third base after having his season cut short due to surgery. Also fighting for time at the hot corner is Buckeye left-infield staple Cory Rupert. Up the middle the duo of Tyler Engle and Cory Kovanda returns in-tact. Ryan Cypret brings an addition option to the infield.
It was announced Zach Nowland has left the program to focus on his Honors Program.

As expected Alex Wimmers leads the pitching staff as the All-American will have a bullseye on him accoring to Coach Todd. A few lingering questions have been answered as Ross Oltorik is healthy and ready to go. Andrew Armstrong appears to still be recovering from surgery and a decision on his playing time will be handled during the season. Eric Best the senior leader of the staff, is rehabbing from his surgery and does not appear to have any setbacks in his return.
Unfortunately one questions is still in the air. Will Drew Rucinski continue to set-up, close, or step into the rotation?
The Buckeyes have added three walk-ons to the staff, and true freshman Brett McKinney is expect to throw his name into the ring for serious playing time.
Veterans Theron Minium, Jared Strayer, and Eric Shinn return to provide depth to the staff.
Coming tomorrow will be the catchers.

That Team Up North
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State and Michigan will play three games this weekend at Bill Davis Stadium with all three games being televised on the Big Ten Network. Expect Ohio State to throw RHP Alex Wimmers Friday, RHP Dean Wolosiansky Saturday and LHP Eric Best Sunday. Michigan indicated that it would choose its starters on a day-by-day basis this weekend. Wolverine student-athletes were in the midst of their finals week this week.

OSU Athletics Weekend Preview
In case you were not aware, Sadly, Michigan has won all five series against the Buckeyes and 20 of the past 26 games. Give credit to Head Coach Rich Mahoney for building the program back up and being the Big Ten's elite program the past three seasons. Though with Recknagel, Putnam, Abraham, VanBuskirk, Mahler, Christian, and compay moving on, as well as Ohio State potentially on the verge of a special season, the Bucks are due. Or is it Dew?
I think we get a great performance tonight from Wimmers and clutch hits from Dew and Arp. Fetter will be the best pitcher Ohio State has faced this season and we cannot afford to strand RISP like we have of late. I'm sure the guys will be fired up and ready to go.
Hopefully a crowd near 3,000 comes out tonight and suports the team as they get a victory. Though the longer the gray skies stick around, the fewer fans will turn out. The weather is calling for overcast and a gametime temp of 68. Temperature will drop just bit to 60 by 10. Showers will be hit or miss, more than likely hit, chance of rain is 55% at 7, 60% at 8, 40% at 9, and 30% at 10. If the game is played, I suspect a lot of aluminum bleachers under the overhang are filled with the orange reserved seats left for the rain.

Buckeye Diamond Club Appreciation Day
The Buckeye Diamond Club appreciation day cookout for Diamond Club members is Saturday. The cookout begins at 12:30 on the baseball office terrace along the left field line.
The Diamond Club is providing tickets to the game for all Diamond Club Members. To obtain tickets, go to the ticket booth and tell them you are a Diamond Club member. Each Diamond Club member will be entitled to four tickets to the game.

2009 Meet the Team luncheon set for February 14h
Looking for a chance to congradulate Miller on his accolades, speak to your favorite player, or see the entire 2009 Ohio State baseball team? The 2009 Meet the Team luncheon is set for February 14th at the Holiday Inn on the Lane. The luncheon is a chance to meet the 2009 team and hear from Head Coach Bob Todd as he discusses the upcoming season and the team’s road to the Big Ten Title and the College World Series.

Celebrating 125 Years of Ohio State Baseball
In the four-game series this weekend vs. Illinois, Ohio State is celebrating 125 years of Ohio State baseball that will feature two legendary coaches being honored for their accomplishments.
Marty Karow, Ohio State skipper from 1951 until 1976, led the Buckeyes to four College World Series, winning the national title in 1966. He will have his jersey – No. 13 – officially retired by the athletics department in a ceremony between doubleheader games Saturday.
Bob Todd, the winningest coach in Ohio State history with more than 800 wins in his 21 seasons as Ohio State coach, will be honored before the Friday game on his induction into the American Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame (which will officially take place in January at the ABCA Convention).
Karow, who won a then-record 479 Ohio State games, will be only the third individual to have his jersey retired. Fred Taylor, Ohio State’s first baseball All-American, had his No. 27 retired in 2003. Steve Arlin, the great Ohio State pitcher who led the Buckeyes to back-to-back College World Series and to the 1966 CWS championship, had his jersey No. 22 retired in 2005. Karow’s jersey will be retired 33 years to the date of his last home game as coach: a 1-0 win over Michigan May 10, 1975. He passed away in 1986, three months shy of his 82nd birthday.
Todd, who has 947 career victories in this, his 25th season as a collegiate head coach, has guided Ohio State to six of its 14 Big Ten Conference championships and he has also led the team to a Big Ten record eight Big Ten tournament titles. In addition, he has led the team into 12 NCAA tournaments. Todd has done more than win championships at Ohio State , though. He was the driving force behind the fund raising efforts and the building of the majestic Bill Davis Stadium.
“The Ohio State Department of Athletics is thrilled to honor the legacy of Marty Karow by retiring his jersey,” Gene Smith, Director of Athletics, said, “and we are most proud of the lasting achievements of coach Bob Todd that have enabled him to attain the highest coaching honor possible: being enshrined into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.”
The Illinois weekend will also be an opportunity to celebrate the current student-athletes as well as the past accomplishments of those before them. Among the efforts planned for the weekend:
Ohio State ’s baseball captains – 151 different individuals have served as captain over the years including this year’s captains, Dan DeLucia and Justin Miller – will have their annual captain’s breakfast Sunday morning.
This year’s four seniors – Dan DeLucia, Tony Kennedy, Chris Macke and Rory Meister – will be honored on the field prior to the 1:05 p.m. Sunday game.
In conjunction with the Diamond Club, the baseball program’s booster organization, a BBQ picnic will take place on Saturday and will be open to the public for a minimal charge with all proceeds benefiting the baseball program.
