RHP Ross Oltorik Transferring to Arizona

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Ross Oltorik is transferring to the University of Arizona this upcoming academic school year. The Cincinnati native who hails from Archbishop Moeller, missed all of the 2010 season after suffering a rotator cuff injury in his right shoulder. The injury was devastating to Ohio State's hopes to repeating as Big Ten champions as Ross was scheduled to be a weekend starter after a fine preseason camp.

Oltorik who was a reserve quarterback during the 2008 season under Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel, took a year away from the gridiron this past season to focus solely on baseball, a season that ultimately went for naught with the injury.

Ross eluded to the fact that making baseball his number one priority of football, was no longer in his heart, and transferring to Arizona will give him a great opportunity to resume his quarterbacking when he is eligible during the 2011 football season. Oltorik will have three years of football eligibility left at Arizona as well as two years if he chooses to continue to play baseball.

In his one season on the mound for Ohio State, the #3 Ohio prospect of the class of 2008 determined by the Buckeye Scout, went 1-1 with a 9.58 ERA in 11 games. With six starts Oltorik pitched 31.0 innings, walking 19 with 12 strikeouts. Opponents batted .323 off Oltorik before his season ended prematurely with tendinitis in his right elbow.

Too bad we are losing Ross but you can't blame a kid for following his heart to play football. The horrible part was his injury this past year for the pitching staff. What a huge blow that was,i had penciled him in as our Sunday starter and bamm he gets hurt. Good luck to the young man in Arizona for sure.
