BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (NCBWA) – Forty-five relief pitchers are included on the midseason watch list for the fifth annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, the association announced Thursday. The award is given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I college baseball.
After yesterday's 1-0 victory over Purdue, in which Hale collected his 8th save of the year, Jake now has a statline that includes a 1.26 ERA, 8 saves, 36 strikeouts in 28.2 innings pitched. Hale has allowed just 19 hits, only three being of exra bases (all doubles), limiting opponents to a .183 batting average off of the senior righty. Hale has appeared in 22 of Ohio State's 35 games, closing out 21 of them. Both statistics lead the Big Ten.

Re: Drew's comment on VarsityBlue
Oaks was originally brought on as a pitcher who could play outfield. He throws hard, but his stick was much more valuable the last few seasons, especially pinch hitting last year.
Its not that the bullpen is that thin, we've got the bodies - we just don't have the consistency. Burgoon and Dufek have struggled. Miller has looked great then poor. Same thing with Gerbe, Wilson, and Smith. No one is stepping up.
I was not bashing Oaks or anything i just did not know he pitched till this season. Good to see Burgoon back for UM they have missed him. They need him in the back end of the pen. It should be a fun weekend in Columbus on May 1st-3rd.
Hale was a stud this weekend for the Bucks closing all 3 games. Jake went 5.1 Ip with 7 K's,2 BB and 4 hits given up in 3 games vs. Purdue. And he shut down Purdue slugger Dan Black (0-2,BB) vs. Hale. Great job Jake!!
Just remeber who, at the beginning of the year, implied that the team would be better served if Jake were in the rotation. What have we learned? Well, I have learned that I LOVE being wrong (according to my wife this is often the case) and you guys have learned never to put any weight in my comments. Anyone (Chris?) know the syayus on Armstrong and DeLucia?
I do have news on DeLucia. I'll touch on that here shortly.
