Chippewas Stage Another Upset

Last Wednesday it was Michigan. Tonight it was Ohio State. With a 4-2 victory over the Buckeyes Wednesday at Bill Davis Stadium, Central Michigan has downed the two Big Ten powers in consecutive midweek games (box score). Yet, the Chippewas own a losing record overall, improving to 13-16 with the upset.

Central Michigan took a 2-1 run lead in the fourth, but a sacrifice fly by Ohio State's Justin Miller in the bottom of the fifth scored J.B. Shuck to tie the game at two. An RBI double by Noah Lankford in the seventh gave Central Michigan the lead for good and it tacked on an insurance run in the eighth on an RBI single by Sean Hoorelbeke.

Ohio State, which slipped to 16-10 on the year, never threatened again after scoring the equalizer and were retired in order in the sixth, seventh and eighth before Ryan Dew drew a walk to begin the home half of the ninth. Ben Toussant pinch hit for Brian DeLucia but struck out looking. Dan Burkhart grounded into a fielder's choice and Tyler Engle grounded out to third. Ballgame over.

Josh Edgin got the start for the Buckeyes and lasted only 4.0 innings. He allowed two runs on one hit but struck out five and walked one. Drew Rucinski pitched 3.0 innings and Alex Wimmers pitched the eighth and ninth. There were just nine hits in the game, including five by Ohio State. Zach Hurley accounted for two of them while Miller drove in both runs. The Buckeyes committed two errors. Central Michigan had one.

CMU starter Jesse Hernandez allowed the two Buckeyes runs on five hits in 8.0 innings. Chris Kupillas took care of Ohio State in the ninth to pick up his second save.

Only 733 fans bothered to show up. Maybe they're holding out for the wildly successful Buck-a-Burger Nights (April 23 vs. Akron and May 7 vs. Marshall).

Ohio State takes on Michigan State this weekend at Oldsmobile Park in Lansing, Mich.

You have to wonder if BT reads the site, or if we're just pretty darn smart.

As suggested TK is getting the night off. OF of Hurley-Shuck-Dew.
Meade is back at DH. DeLucia is at 3B, giving Rupert some rest with the injury.

Edgin gets the start.

1-0 bottom 3.

Yeah, it is a great to think Coach Todd reads The Buckeye Nine, but unless someone on his staff is printing the posts for him, there is no chance of that. He hasn't even warmed up to email yet.

Bad loss tonight at the Bill.
Very bad at the plate today. Give credit to CMU SP,he was on the money tonight.Nice curve. We were not aggresive at all tonight. We watched strikes go by and swing at balls. 5 Hits and 2 Errors are not going to win many games for you.

PH Toussant for Delucia in the 9th? Left 6 runners on in the 1st 3 innings. CMU 1B had a big HR too. Edgin did not pitch bad,But walked Stovall before the HR in the 4th.

I hate to be so critical, but these Wed. games kill me to lose.It alwasy hurts at the end of the year.

The Wednesday games are embarassing to lose, but its better to lose them than Fri-Sun games.

There will not be an at-large team selected from the conference this year to the NCAA, unless Michigan has enough pull and lose in the Tourney.

Our only hope is to win the tournament, our RPI is going to stink regardless if we lost last night. Now if we had won the games we "should have" against Maine, Air Force, N. Iowa etc, and pulled out the Arkansas and TAMU games, losing last night would definitely hurt, but our pre-conference struggles left us with win the tourney or nothing reality.

With the crowd size, I was thinking maybe its just a reflection of having fan favorite from last year move on? You coud always count on the family and friends of the Fryers, Howells, Zoellers, Angles, etc always being there, and this year those same reserved seats are a bit empty.

I'll be in Lansing and should have quite a few pictures, we'll see how many games we get in with the weather, but I can't complain since I have a home to go back to there and not a hotel.

Yeah the crowd have been down this year. But really that is nothing new. OSU baseball has such a small following anyway.Wednesday games are hard for the Guys to be ready to play in front of a small and quite crowd. It is just hard.

I hate to lose those Wed. games.I agree about the Big Ten being a 1 bid conference,i just hate to lose to a MAC team that is 12-16.It drives me nuts.

Anyway on to this weekend.Hopefully we can play all the games.I hate to lose Big Ten games to weather. The forecast looks pretty bad. If we lose games(to weather) we are going to lose Michigan and they will run away with the league.

Meade also ended his 17 Game hit streak last night. Some how we have to come up with some extra base hits this weekend.JB Shuck has not hit a ball hard in a while.Need to get him going.Kennedy also needs to step up.
