Ohio State Downs La Tech

Ohio State jumped out to a 4-0 lead and had an answer each time Louisiana Tech tried to mount any threat. When the Bulldogs scored twice in the top of the seventh, the Buckeyes answered both runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 6-2. La Tech scored twice more in the eighth, but the Buckeyes added a run before winning 7-4 (box score).

Centerfielder J.B. Shuck finished 4-for-5 with two RBI and catcher Justin Miller was 3-for-4 and drove in two. Zach Hurley and Tyler Engle each added two hits as the Buckeyes pounded out a season-high 15 hits.

Redshirt freshman Dean Wolosiansky improved to 2-0 with the victory. He did not allow a run on six hits in 5.0 innings. He struck out six and did not walk a batter. The Bulldogs scored two runs each off Josh Edgin and Drew Rucinski. Rory Meister picked up his second save of the season and struck out two in 1.0 inning of work.

The Buckeyes, now 4-1 on the season, close out the Dominos Pizza Classic vs. Arkansas Sunday at noon, ET. The Razorbacks lost to Texas A&M 15-7 Saturday night.

Louisiana Tech game recap.

Good win today! Dean Wolosianski was been a nice suprise on the pitching staff, so far.Shuck and Miller are hitting well right now. The infield defensive is struggling right now, but hard to be critical when we have not been outside to practice. The middle relief is still trying to find itself. I was also wondering about Josh Barrea, is he injured again? Hope Brian Delucia can recover soon and get back in the lineup. With Shuck on the hill tomorrow, I would like to see JB just pitch vs. the Razorbacks. I thought last year he really wore down @ the plate on the same day he was pitching. If any one can do it Shuck can, but he is a great OF.

GO Bucks!

Was a good game overall.

We need a change in the OF though.

Of course we'll get one with JB pitching, but our Corner OF's have not been getting the job done. Where is our power? How can we be a legit team with our #2 and #3 hitters doing virtually nothing at the plate?

Would like to see something along the lines of

Arp-Hurley-Macke.

Arp has shown he can get the job done.

Hurley went 2-2 today, and provides the speed needed in CF.

Macke in limited time over his career has produced. He can't be any worse than what we have had of late with Dew and Kennedy.

Wolosianski has been a huge addition, and with DeLuica, Hale, Shuck, Wolosianski starting, we should feel we can win the league. Our pitching will put us in the game, just our defense might take us right back out.

I'm looking forward to see J.B. pitch Sunday. I agree that he should not bat when he pitches. He does seem to be a lot more effective that way. I think Josh Barrera has not been as effective since his injury last year, but I'll look into that.

Rockybuckeye... As for an outfield change we will see one with Shuck on the mound. I'm not sure what the plans will be, but Hurley has speed. Shuck let a few balls get away from him out there in these last two games. I think Macke lacks the experience in the outfield. I know he has played a couple of games out there. I will say though he makes things happen offensively when he's had an opportunity. Arp was solid Friday DH-ing against the Aggies.

I agree Macke lacks the experience in the OF, but if theres a time to learn it should be now, and not during the Michigan series when we're scrapping for a win to save our lives. (Hoping we don't get to that position of course.)

Dew has great potential, and a great frame, but time and time again he is over aggresive, and any off speed after pounding him with the hardstuff, he over swings and strikes out. I will admit his defense is getting better, but when you're in the 3-hole your bat has to do some talking.

On a positive note, we all have to be very please with how JB is at the plate. Coming off of he terrible slump to end 07, and having his woes continue in Cape Cod, was a bit worried that he might start slow, but that was not the case.

Gus is just being Gus. Quietly gets the job done and when we need it he comes through.

Anyhow thanks for having this blog and allowing for the chance to interact and follow the game closer.

I was very suprised how bad JB was in the cap cod this past summer. Yeah i agree we do not have any power in the #3 spot in the lineup. The last couple of years we have had very little power since Stephen,Swish and Snavely. We really need to recuirt some strong power in the next couple of years.

I don't know what to think of Dew. His bat is ok at times but does look terrible other times. He can not hit a curve at all. His Of play is average at best. Tony K is not a great #2 hitter either. I know one thing he is not a true 3rd baseman.I would like to see Cory Kovanda or maybe Hurley/Arp in the 2 hole.

The defensive on the left side of the infield is nothing new. It has been bad for years now. Hopefully some outside practice and Brian Delucia back should help.I think Rupert will be ok. SS is a hard postion to play. His range is ok but i don't think his arm is that strong. At the plate if he can bunt, steal a base, move runners over and maybe drive in 30 runs that would work out. Big game tomorrow vs the mighty SEC.

The OSU lineup for Sunday's game vs. Arkansas has Zach Hurley in left batting sixth, Tony Kennedy leading off and playing centerfield and Ryan Dew play right and batting third. Obviously, J.B. will concentrate solely on pitching.

Bucks go down 8-6.

Give up 4 HR's. 3 by JB, 1 by Wimmers. Meade played well 3-4, as does Hurley 2-4 with a huge triple.

Same as usual with Dew 0-3 and Kennedy 1-5, no production. Millers hit streak dating back to last year ends, as he goes 0-3.

0 errors though.

Still believe we need a change in the OF, Hurley proved his worth, Arp PH in the 9th and got a hit. JB will be back on non pitching days.

Tough game today.

I agree about our OF play. I like a Hurley/Arp-Shuck-Dew outfield. No one on our team has the defensive ability Matt Angle did in center field. Sounds like the OF struggled, this weekend. We just need more practice. This OF will not have the defensive range of last couple of years, losing Howell and Angle.

JB will have better games. Sounds like his control was not great. Also sounds like the wind was very strong today. I really like Ryan Meade's play so far. Nice to see Zach Hurley have a nice game, today also. Will be nice to have Jake and Brian Delucia back, hopefully next weekend.
