A day after pounding out 16 hits in a win over Harvard, Ohio State slapped 19 hits to get by Dartmouth Sunday at the IMG Academy. The Buckeyes jumped out to a 6-0 lead but the Big Green got three runs off OSU starter J.B. Shuck in the bottom of the fourth to pull within a 6-3 tally.
The Buckeye offense responded in the top of the fifth, exploding for six runs to take a 12-3 lead. Dartmouth closed within a 12-9 score before the Buckeyes added single runs in the eighth and ninth inning on their way to a five-run victory, 14-9 (box score).
Ryan Meade was 4-for-6 and drove in three runs. In the two games he is 7-for-10 with five RBI. On Sunday, all nine starters had at least one hit. In addition to Meade, five others had at least two hits. Tony Kennedy, batting in the lead-off spot since Shuck started on the mound, was 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Shuck lasted 5.0 innings and allowed four runs on four hits and struck out seven to improve to 3-1 this season. He struggled at times and issued five walks, hit a batter and threw a wild pitch. He handed the reins to Jared Strayer, who pitched the sixth. Brad Hays walked two and allowed four runs on two hits in a third of an inning before Drew Rucinski went the final 2.2 innings, limiting Dartmouth to three hits. He struck out two and picked up the save. Jake Prunner took the loss for the Big Green, which is now 3-3. Click here for the Dartmouth recap.
The Buckeyes settled down a little on defense, committing just one miscue, but have had at least one error in 10 of 11 games. Still it is nice to see 35 hits in two games.
Ohio State, now 7-4 on the year, and returns to the field Monday at 7:30 p.m. against Northern Iowa.

Nice win today.19 hits wow! Nice to see the bats warming up.
Kennedy had a HR and 3 RBI today, has a 11 game hitting streak going.Meade went 4-6, 2B, 3 RBI.Rupert had 2 RBI and a 2B.
I would like to see Meade,Miller,Delucia,Burkhart,Arp in the 3-7 spots the lineup.
Nice to see Strayer and Hayes with a chance to pitch today. JB soild again today. Win # 3 on the year. He only won 4 game's all last year.
only 1 miscue today.
Sounds like we are playing good baseball right now. I know we are not playing great baseball schools.
But W are always good. They all count the same at the end of the year.
Nice to see TK step up lately. As a 5th year it is his role to do so. Unfortunately the memo hasn't hit Rory yet.
Stil puzzled at how everything else has changed at one point or another except Dew batting 3rd. He is down to .196 (9-47) OBP .255 and SLG .261 and just 6 RBI.
Not sure if this is a good note or not but we have 7 saves in 7 wins.
Meister's success is consistently throwing strikes and working ahead. It sounds so simple but is very true with Rory.Walks and wildness have killed him in the past. I like Rory, but he needs to step up this season. We need a Cox or Davis type closer this spring.
I like Dew, but we need production from the 3-hole. The last couple of years we had Fryer and Caravati in the 3 spot.Their production was key in that spot in the lineup.Dew is young and a good OF, just move him down in the lineup. He is struggling big time as you pointed out.
The save thing is ok, as long as we win. A lot of these games we should win by more runs, but W are W in my book.We seem to blow big leads at times this year. As long as we find a consistant closer.
Dean W on the hill tonight vs. Northern Lowa.
Go Bucks!
Lineup for Bucks tonight vs N. Lowa
CF Kennedy
2B Kovanda
DH Shuck
C Miller
1B Meade
RF Arp
3B Rupert
LF Macke
SS Engle
I like it, hopefully it works. Nice to see changes in RF/3-spot
Go Bucks
Dear lord, I can't believe what I seeing.
Changes. and good changes.
I don't mind TK at the top if he can continue what he has been doing of late. Just at the start of the season he was really a rally killer.
Shuck-Miller-Meade 3-4-5 how can you ot like it? Oh we're up 2-0 in the first with Meade knocking in Kovanda and Shuck.
Oh and Meade's 2 RBI single, with 2 outs, ends up being followed by Arp singling, then Rupert, and Macke with RBI singles. 5-0. Nice to see the guys step up when gave the chance. This is surprising but Rupert has 12 RBI in 12 game.
Lineup changes look great and work,5 runs and 6 hits. Great to see BT change things up.
Rupert and Meade are hot right now
Go Bucks
Well the bats have been there, outside of Engle the offense is still on fire.
But my how does our bullpen situation suck right now.
There has to be a reason why Barerra and Mininum have not played. Todd playing favorites isn't a legit reason.
Speaking of favorites...
WHY does Todd PH Dew for Arp? Arp 1-3, 1 BB, 2 runs. Dew pops out to 1B.
Great move BT.
Oh and now BT PH Hurley for Macke. Macke who was 2-3 with a RBI double. Hurley flies out.
Awesome coaching.
