The 2010 Ohio State schedule is finalized. However those in charge do not want it released yet. Maybe a few changes might occur? Maybe mystery is sexy? Maybe we shied away from playing tough out of conference competition, that would do nothing but benefit the team in case Super Regionals become reality? Whatever the reason, the schedule is not available to the public, so I can't get a complete rundown.
But since baseball is a two team game, as opponents release their schedules if the Buckeyes are on it, I'll pass it along.
Previously we mentioned the Ball State-Ohio State midweek game. We also mentioned the Buckeyes 3/12-3/14 will be in Knoxville playing Tennessee, Connecticut, and Marshall.
Well we now find out Marshall makes a trip to Columbus. You know just in case we're embarassed by the 100+ RPI Thundering Herd once, we can be embarassed twice!
On April 28th, the Green and White invade Bill Davis thanks to CBS Channel 7 WTRF. You have to be impressed at the lengths and resources I pull to get you the latest news.
So there we have one more piece of the puzzle. Not particularly a pretty piece, but a piece. Bring on Buck-a-burger night.

Buck-a-Buger Night vs. Akron
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State continues its longest homestand of the season with four games this week at Bill Davis Stadium. Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. the Buckeyes host former assistant coach Pat Bangtson and his Akron Zips.

Ohio State and Akron are meeting for the 30th time in a series that was initiated in 1980. Ohio State leads the series, 19-10, including a 6-3 record for Bob Todd-coached teams. Pat Bangtson’s Akron club won the last meeting, 7-3, in the second game of a double-header last year.

BUCKEYES 1-3 ON HUMP DAY
Ohio State is only 1-3 in Wednesday games this season at Bill Davis Stadium with losses to Marshall, Kent State and Ball State (been outscored, 42-18, in those games, too) and a win over Morehead State.
A QUICK LOOK AT OHIO STATE
Ohio State is coming off a 10-6 loss to Northwestern Sunday, but has won seven of its last 10 games, including a 2-1 Big Ten series win over Northwestern. ... The team’s 11-4 record in the Big Ten is good for a tie for first place with Illinois. ... Coach Bob Todd’s teams have won 30 or more games for 24 consecutive seasons, including all 22 of his Ohio State teams. ... The team is 26-2 when leading after the sixth inning and 26-0 when leading after the seventh. Some even quicker notes:
• The team batting average of .330 and slugging pct. of .507 each lead the Big Ten Conference.
• Its 5.45 ERA is fifth in the Big Ten. The staff’s .279 opposing batting average is 2nd.
• The Buckeyes are fielding at a .965 rate, good for fifth in the Big Ten.
• In Big Ten games only, Ohio State is fielding at a .974 rate, good for second in the league.
THE AKRON ZIPS
Pat Bangtson left Ohio State after the 2005 season for Akron and his first head coaching assignment. His Zips make the short trip into Columbus having won eight of their last 12 games. Six players for the Zips currently boast a batting average of over .300 with three totaling over 50 hits on the year.
In MAC play, the Zips have played well at home, going 6-3, but the road has provided its woes with a 2-7 record. Akron is chasing a spot in the MAC Tournament, which takes the top three teams from each division. The next two with the best record, regardless of division, receive at-large bids. Akron is currently fifth in the East Division and looking for an at-large bid. A quick survey of other teams looking for at-large bids includes Bowling Green (10-7), Eastern Michigan, (7-11), Northern Illinois (6-11) and Western Michigan (6-12). Here’s more about the Zips:
• The team has won five of its last six games.
• After a home MAC series with Miami this weekend, Akron plays its final two conference weekends on the road at Kent State and at Bowling Green.

Buckeyes Down Thundering Herd, 8-1
Ohio State won the final midweek night game of the season with an 8-1 decision over Marshall Wednesday at Bill Davis Stadium. The Buckeyes now turn their attention to a four-game homestand against Illinois this weekend.
The teams managed to play five innings in a steady rain and had to endure a 22-minute delay between the top and bottom of the second inning. After the delay, Ohio State scored four runs. Ryan Dew led off with a double and Brian DeLucia drove him in with a double of his own. A single by Dan Burkhart plated DeLucia. Tyler Engle doubled putting runners at second and third for Tony Kennedy who singled up the middle to score two more.
Marshall scored its lone run in the top of the third, but Ohio State countered with one in the fourth and three in the fifth. The Buckeyes finsihed the game with 10 hits, including two each by DeLucia, Engle and Justin Miller. Cory Rupert drove in two. Miller and Rupert each hit home runs.
The Herd had just three hits against Buckeye pitching. Andrew Armstrong got the start and the win in 4.0 innings. Alex Wimmers pitched 1.0 inning.
After the Big Ten series with Illinois, the Buckeyes close out the home portion of the schedule against Buffalo Tuesday at 12:05 p.m. in the annual Columbus Public Schools Day.

Bucks Split Twinbill with Akron
Somehow the Buckeyes found a way to come back for an 8-7 victory over Akron in game one of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday at Bill Davis Stadium. There would not be a comeback in game two as the Zips cruised to a 7-3 victory.

OSU starter Josh Edgin gave up six runs to Akron in the first inning of game one, but the Buckeyes didn't give up in the seven-inning game. They got on the board with three runs in the third before Akron added a seventh run in the fifth inning. Ohio State was able to add three more in the sixth.
Tony Kennedy drove in the tying run in the bottom of the seventh and Cory Kovanda's sacrifice fly gave the Buckeyes the victory. Kennedy finished the game 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored while Kovanda drove in two in a 1-for-4 game. Michael Arp also drove in two. Ohio State pounded out 10 hits compared to five by Akron. Neither team committed an error.
Edgin allowed six runs on just three hits in his 4.0 innings. Rory Meister got a win in pitching the final 3.0 innings though allowed one run on a pair of hits.
In nine-inning game two, it was all Zips. Akron got on the board with one in the first and added two more in the third. Ohio State got on the board with a pair of run in the bottom of the third to close within a 3-2 score. That is as close as it would get. The Zips went on to add two in the fifth and two more in the ninth. The Bucks managed just one more run in the seventh.
Drew Rucinski got the start and went just 4.0 innings. He allowed three runs on eight hits. Andrew Armstrong, Jared Strayer and Eric Best were also used in game two. The four OSU pitchers allowed 14 hits.
Ohio State got 11 hits in the nightcap, getting two hits each from Kovanda, J.B. Shuck, Justin Miller, Ryan Dew and Dan Burkhart. Zach Hurley had the other. Miller drove in two.
Akron's win in game two was the first win for Zips' skipper Pat Bangtson against his former mentor, Bob Todd. Bangtson pitched for Todd at Kent State and was an assistant coach for Todd at Ohio State.
