He is the only middle reliever that Ohio State used (31 appearances, 65.2 innings, 9-2, 2 saves). Rucinski pitched in 5 of Wimmers 14 starts, 10 of Wolosiansky 14 starts, and 24 times ahead of Hale. It’s certain that Rucinski was a major factor in the success that Ohio State had this season. Just proves that being a middle reliever is a thankless job.powerdog18https://www.blogger.com/profile/11205381757139905078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6156350075032927506.post-81624794895880394832009-05-20T21:47:49.122-04:002009-05-20T21:47:49.122-04:00Some very interesting comments on "The Big Ten Har...Some very interesting comments on "The Big Ten Hardball" blog. His insights are very insightful about this years selections. The bottom line is if you are not going to award the most deserving players, then why even give out the awards? It just takes any credibility away from the recognition for the players and reflects poorly on the conference.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6156350075032927506.post-25345069009447967802009-05-20T20:18:35.729-04:002009-05-20T20:18:35.729-04:00No idea why Burkhart beat out McCallum, I'm just a...No idea why Burkhart beat out McCallum, I'm just as surprised, and when I opend the press release seeing Burkhart was a surprise. A pleasant one.

Have to ask the coaches, they're the ones who vote on the awards.

To be fair, overall numbers aren't what is voted on, I know McCallum still has better numbers, just making that point known. Its relative to what is done during conference, or at least I'm told. Hence Gus being named 2nd-team when struggling for the majority of the season.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16676360067091604946noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6156350075032927506.post-60008340274028559602009-05-20T18:10:47.702-04:002009-05-20T18:10:47.702-04:00Defense? He had nine wins and not a single start. Granted some of that is luck but he obviously came through in some big situations as well. I also looked at the statistics for Ignas the pticher from PSU that received third team all conference honors and his stats do not even come close to Rucinski's. He had a higher ERA, way less innings, and only 19 strikeouts on the year compared to Rucinski's 58.
Congratulations to the Buckeyes that did receive the awards. I am very proud of them.
